An advisory panel selected by Pasadena City Manager Michael J. Beck will evaluate and rank semi-finalist candidates for the position of police chief this week.
At the conclusion of their business, the names and affiliations of the panelists will be released to the public.
Beck first presented his concept for the panel – a diverse mix of community leaders, local government officials and law enforcement executives – during a series of public meetings in autumn 2009.
“The public has a right to know who I chose for this important step in the process and I am making a firm commitment to release the names as soon as their day-long work has been completed,” said Beck. “I appreciate the community’s patience and understanding.”
The panel will recommend the top-ranked semi-finalists; Beck will personally interview the recommended finalists and conduct extensive background checks, including visits to their jurisdictions, before deciding who will be Pasadena’s next police chief. He will likely make his final selection by late May.
The list will be available on a section of the city’s website (www.cityofpasadena.net) devoted to the selection process.
