Crime Drops 24.7% In Pasadena

The Criminal Justice Statistics Center, State of California,
will soon release its preliminary report, “Crime in 2009, January through June.” The
report compares preliminary counts of crimes from January through June 2008 with
those of the same period in 2009. The report reflects information reported through
August 31, 2009.
These statistics show a 24.7% reduction in violent crime (homicide, forcible rape,
robbery, and aggravated assault) and a 4.1% reduction in property crimes (burglary,
motor vehicle theft, and larceny theft).
“The police department attributes this continued success to several contributing
factors,” says Interim Chief of Police Christopher Vicino. “We continually apply the
philosophy of prevention, intervention, and enforcement. We arrested 89 violent gang
members last year which had a significant impact on street level crime and the
availability of drugs and money. In addition, the men and women of the Pasadena
Police Department have worked especially hard, and lastly and most importantly, the
commitment of the Pasadena community to work with the police department to fight
crime cannot be emphasized enough. Our community partners make a lot of what we
do possible.” The table below summarizes the report:
Year Total Violent Crime Total Property Crime
2008 (6 months) 316 1,158 ;2009 (6 months) 238 1,111; % change -24.7 -4.1
