The 4th Annual “Take 25” national campaign, sponsored by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is May 25th. The Pasadena Police Department will participate by taking 25 minutes at over a dozen schools at morning assemblies to teach children how to stay safe.
“The Communications Section has taken the leadership initiative to get this information out to the schools and their students,” says Communications Administrator Wendy Petry. “The overall goal, however, is to encourage parents and caregivers to do the same. It only takes 25 minutes to talk with your kids about safety. It can mean the difference between life and death.”
First proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1983 as National Missing Children’s Day, May 25th serves as an annual reminder to the nation to renew efforts to reunite missing children with their families, remember those who are still missing and make child protection a national priority.
“This campaign is based on the premise that if parents and caretakers simply take 25 minutes to talk with their children about stranger danger, how to call the police, internet safety, personal boundaries and internet safety, then tens of thousands of children and their families can be saved from the from the devastation that child predators inflict,” says Interim Chief of Police Christopher Vicino. “We are happy to participate and we hope that by doing so we can encourage families to talk about these important issues together.”
