La Canada Mud Flow Catches Authorities by Surprise – 30 Homes Possibly Lost

Published: Saturday, February 6th, 2010

By mid morning Saturday the clean up work was well underway. Many  cars had been washed down Ocean View Blvd like a slip and slide at an amusement park.  However, this was no laughing matter. The cars were destroyed contributing to an over all vista of absolute chaos…one refered to it as a war zone. The rains surprised all the best minds in weather circles and caught La Canada off guard.

Officials said Saturday afternoon that nine homes in the city were “red-tagged,” meaning that the structures are too damaged for residents to return until major repairs are done.
Laura Olhasso, the city’s mayor, also said that a total of 24 homes were damaged in the city, though fire officials estimated that at least 30 in La Canada were damaged.

Here is a slide show of some of the devastation left by the mud low last night.
