It has also claimed the lives of two firefighters when their vehicle went off the side of a mountain road during a firestorm.
The blaze was only about 5 percent contained Sunday morning and had scorched 55 square miles in the Angeles National Forest. Evacuations were in effect for neighborhoods in Glendale, Pasadena and other cities and towns north of Los Angeles.

The fire threatened Mount Wilson, where many broadcast and communications antennas as well as the observatory can be found. Flames were, at one point, within two miles of said observatory.

Humidity was very low and temperatures are in the triple digits. Mandatory evacuations were also in effect for neighborhoods in Altadena and for the communities of Acton, La Canada Flintridge, La Crescenta and Big Tujunga Canyon.

There was some progress Sunday, as a small number of La Canada Flintridge residents living west of the Arroyo Seco were told they could go back to their homes.

  1. Holy cow, this picture is amazing! Possible the best pic I’ve seen yet in a story about the recent fires. I really hope the fires are put out soon. I’m worried about all those people who could lose their homes.

Thanks for your comment Natalie. We’ll be posting more Altadena Fire images soon. The use of a DC10 jet to fight fires is a relatively new thing in battling wildfires in California.

At around 2pm driving home listening to AM640 there was a program update on the “Station Fire”. When regular program resuumed the broadcaster brought up an issue concerning Calif. Budget cuts. He stated that our GOV had signed new budget that no longer included use of DC10,not renewing contract for use of this jet to fight fires would save taxpayers 7 million. The “MMG” (mental media giant) also mentioned “how many homes could we have saved if we still had use of this plane?”. I am sure we will find out next fire season, its obvious current contract still good. Do me a favor forward this great photo to AM640 radio station, this day and age I personally will not stand for careless broadcasting.

The images may be outstanding, but the editorial coverage is horrible! Very poor and limited coverage. How about telling Pasadena / Altadena residents something they don’t know?!!!

Thanks for your comment. We are a small company working very hard to get accurate information about the fires. Perhaps you were somewhat hasty with your comment..as you’ll see we have quite a few updates since you commented. If you need up to the second information please contact http://www.inciweb.org
