Executives from the McDonnell Douglas Corporation presented a key to the new helicopter to Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard during a brief afternoon ceremony introducing the public to the new member of Pasadena PD.
“Our Air Operations Section is a critical component to policing in our city,” Interim Chief of Police Christopher Vicino said. “Their ability to arrive on scene quickly, survey a large area, and direct officers from the air, enables us to apprehend many criminals that would otherwise have an opportunity to elude ground units. We are proud of their reputation as one of the best municipal helicopters in the nation.” He went on to describe how two years ago a 911 caller was saved and criminala apprehended thanks to the swift arrival of the eyes in the sky.

Scores attended to see the department’s newest tool in crime fighting, meet the City Manager Michael Beck, Interim Chief Christopher O. Vicino and the members of the Air Operations team that keeps the city safe from a bird’s eye view

I am very happy for the citizens of Pasadena. The MD 500E is one of the very best airborne law enforcement platforms available in north America today.
It’s reputation as a police workhorse is widely known. It was not that long ago that the entire fleet of both Los Angeles County Sheriff’s and the Phoenix Police to name a few, consisted of only MD 500 helicopters. They are perhaps the safest and fastest flying also.
A good return on investment can be counted on. They last for years and years. With the advent of Patriach Partners founder Lynn Tilton, personally guiding the helicopter company Howard Hughes founded in the early sixties, MD Helicopters is gradually reclaiming back the air borne law enforcement.
Citizens of Pasadena can be proud and rest well, day or night.
