Pasadena Non-Profit to Open Thrift Store

Published: Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

The All-Out Caring Thrift Store (ACTS), located at 1382 Locust St. in Pasadena (Hill and the 210 freeway), will celebrate its July 17 grand opening with a day full of food and fun, including raffle drawings and music from the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s.

Grand opening events will kick off with a 9:30 a.m. ribbon cutting. Barbecue hot dogs for $1 will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. A disc jockey and violinist will provide music until 6 p.m. for dancing and a sing-along. Treats for 50 cents each will include soft drinks, baked goods, popcorn and snow cones.

All who make merchandise purchases in the store will be entered into a raffle. Items raffled every half-hour from noon to 6 p.m. include gift cards from Starbucks and See’s Candies, and gift baskets from King Henry’s.

“This opening celebration is a great way to introduce ACTS Thrift Store to the community,” said Tony Reyes, store manager.

“ACTS is sure to become Pasadena’s and the Foothill Communities’ go-to place for quality goods at bargain prices that fund a worthy cause,” said Carol Schaller, chairperson of the grand opening event and volunteers committee. “We hope folks will bring the whole family and check us out,”

ACTS Thrift Store (www.actsthrift.org) is a non-profit business launched to help support outreach programs to Pasadena’s growing population of at-risk youth, disadvantaged families and the homeless. Proceeds from the store will fund the Lake Avenue Community Foundation, which operates the programs.

“The store needs an ongoing supply of donations so it can restock every two weeks,” said Bruce Bruinsma, ACTS board chairman and director, as well as board member of the Lake Avenue Community Foundation. “We welcome donations from the public of gently used clothing, small appliances, furniture and household goods.”

Store hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
