More than $160,000 was raised at the 2009 Mentors Award Gala to benefit the treatment and education programs for at-risk youth served by Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services.

Held Oct. 21 in the Globe Theatre at Universal Studios, the evening honored two of Optimist’s major supporters – Terry Chapman, founder of Chapman Insurance and philanthropists Jan and Ian Teague of Palos Verdes Estates. Co-hosted by KTLA’s Michaela Pereira and KNBC’s Chris Schauble, over 300 guests feted the Teagues and Chapman at the dinner and auction. Dinner co-chairs were Bruce Corbin, Sr. Vice President of Union Bank and Cindy Osbrink, founder of the Osbrink Talent Agency.
The proceeds include $48,000, which was raised through a live auction at the gala and earmarked to purchase new curriculum for students at Optimist High School, and for renovations to the campus gymnasium. Kate Linder from the Young and the Restless served as the guest auctioneer.

Trisha Curry, chair of the Los Angeles Commission for Children and Families presented the Teagues with the Humanitarian of the Year Award furnished by the Lladro Boutique in Beverly Hills, while the Chapman family presented their father Terry with the coveted Mentor’s Award. Special guests included Supervisor Don Knabe, actor Tyler James Williams and Antoine Fisher.
Founded in 1906, Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services is one of the region’s largest education and treatment centers for juvenile offenders and other at-risk children. It operates residential care facilities for 99 boys on its Highland Park campus, four group homes and transitional housing in Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside Counties, multifaceted mental health programs for community youth and families, and a multi-county foster care and adoption agency.
