Despite the planned departure of the Pasadena Pops from Descanso’s lawns next summer, Descanso Gardens is currently organizing an expansion musical program for 2010 which will bring music-lovers even more choices of performances in an idyllic setting.

“There will certainly be ‘sounds on the grounds’ here at Descanso in 2010, including three fantastic music series that will feature top local talent whose musical stylings will make for an enjoyable summer evening experience,” says Lisa Fuhrer, director of Public Programs for Descanso Gardens. “Next summer, we’re going to have musical samplings for everyone, including families, 20-somethings, couples, you name it.”

First up for 2010 is the new “Roots of American Jazz Series” that will take place every Thursday from mid-June through mid-September. The 12-concert series presents musicians who will perform a wide-range of influences from African, Brazilian, Caribbean and Central Avenue Jazz from Los Angeles.

Also on tap for the summer of 2010 is “The Second Saturday Series” which will feature well-known independent music acts. This series follows up Descanso’s hosting of the popular indie duo The Bird and The Bee earlier this summer.

Next summer will also offer an expanded family program that will be held on Tuesday evenings. In addition to hearing musical performances, the series will also include theatre, animal presentations and other family-friendly fare.

“With these three new upcoming music series, Descanso Gardens will offer something for everyone on the music front,” sums up Fuhrer. “We are working hard now so next summer will be lively, entertaining and enjoyable for our members and the public.”
